One Arizona businessman with connections to the restaurant industry who was originally detained on murder charges now stands accused of orchestrating an extensive financial scam. While initially detained over his potential involvement in a young adult found dead under suspicious conditions in Tonto National Forest, new charges related to financial deceit now face him as well.
Anthonie Ruinard Jr., aged 39 years, was arrested in July 2023 after being linked with the death of 18-year-old Parker League. League’s remains were found near Apache Junction, Arizona on June 11th; their bodies had been disfigured through cutting, stabbing and incineration to render them unrecognizable and cause a shocking scene of carnage near Apache Junction.
Engaging in Financial Deception
Ruinard was recently indicted by a federal grand jury and accused of defrauding over fifty individuals through Legacy Investors Group Inc, ultimately pocketing an alleged total of $5.6 Million as embezzlement proceeds. Ruinard misrepresented himself as an expert investor with an estimated net worth in excess of $470 Million while promising significant monthly returns from investments such as venture capital funds, private equity or real estate projects to lure his victims in to dealings.
Ruinard ran his scheme as an extravagant Ponzi scheme that provided early investors with payouts financed by contributions from newer victims while spending amassed funds on personal indulgences such as gambling trips to casinos and buying extravagant vehicles (one being an armored van valued at approximately $354,000). Ruinard apparently wasted these funds for personal indulgences such as lavish vacations to exotic locales as well as purchasing an armored van worth around $344,000.
Connection to a Murder Case
Ruinard was arrested as part of the murder investigation upon using one of the deceased’s banking cards postmortem. Ruinard met this Nebraska native while visiting friends in Arizona; upon further investigations blood and DNA traces from Ruinard were located inside his vehicle – leading to charges including drug, weapon and body concealment allegations as well as theft from Ruinard himself.
Business Ventures and Criminal Record
Ruinard once owned Pastiche Modern Eatery in Tucson, an eatery known for serving Modern American cuisine and hosting jazz evenings. Unfortunately, due to financial challenges and staff resignations over unpaid wages, this establishment caught fire causing its permanent closure.
Ruinard has amassed an extensive criminal history that includes charges like armed robbery, theft, issuing bomb threats and cruelty towards animals.
