Nevada Senate race: Democratic Jacky Rosen has surged ahead of her Republican challenger Sam Brown as counting continues, leaving an apparent margin of 12,699. Early Thursday calculations put Rosen ahead by this margin.
Rosen currently leads in terms of votes cast at 47.6% with 644,471 being counted, while Brown trails behind with 46.7% for 631,772 cast in their favor – this information has been revised following the addition of approximately 55,000 new ballots including mail-in ballots and Election Day drop offs.
Counting Continues
There’s been much anticipation of thousands more ballots being counted from Clark and Washoe counties that could alter current standings, especially from these two key counties if mail-in ballots postmarked by Election Day and received by Saturday are added into the total count. Both counties play pivotal roles; Nye County leans Republican, helping Brown while Washoe favors Rosen further consolidating her lead.
Due to the close nature of their race, both Rosen and Brown refrained from declaring victory on Tuesday night; rather, they chose to wait and observe further developments before declaring victory or declaring defeat.
Signature Verification Pending
Verification of signatures on 12,736 mail-in ballots from across Nevada remains one of the key factors affecting its vote count, and will have until November 12 to be resolved.
Brown would become part of an already dominant Republican presence in the US Senate; projections currently show them with 52 seats to 44, though many other Senate contests remain undecided nationwide – giving Nevada’s outcome extra relevance.
Las Vegas Mayor Race
Former US Representative Shelley Berkley (D) currently leads in her bid for Las Vegas mayorship by holding more than half the votes cast against Councilwoman Victoria Seaman (R). Berkley holds more than 50%, placing her ahead in her bid to succeed Oscar and Carolyn Goodman who have served jointly as mayors since 1987.
